In years past, fragrance makers of the world seemed creatively zapped, releasing one celebrity or flanker scent after another. The state of the perfume industry was dim. However, after an exhausting 2016 full of turmoil and uncertainty, fragrance makers seemed newly energized and determined to channel optimism and brightness into their new creations for 2017.
The newest fragrances on the market, out this spring, run the gamut from flirty, youthful juices that feel like they’re meant to be worn with a miniskirt to complex but still light perfumes with a hefty dose of citrus.
From the blockbuster fragrance houses to obscure releases, here are the fragrance trends i am loving for spring 2017.
Good Enough to EatEdible notes are all the rage this season—think cocoa, vanilla, and even whipped cream—and make their mark on fragrances across categories. We love these scents, whose juices are as playful as the whimsical bottles containing them.
TRY:
Carolina Herrera Good Girl ($115), featuring jasmine, cocoa, and tonka bean, and displayed in a bottle shaped like a stiletto, or
Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Sucre ($76), with tantalizing notes of mandarin and whipped cream in a bottle that’s unabashedly Juicy Couture.
Water, Water EverywhereDelicate and ephemeral, these scents epitomize the lighter side of spring and have a distinctive watery vibe. Unlike previous watery blockbusters, however, they feature a dose of floral, making them more universally appealing.
TRY:
Kenzo Kenzo World ($87), a cool, modern fragrance featuring notes of jasmine, peony, and ambroxan crystals, or
Miu Miu L’Eau Bleue ($90), which includes notes of honeysuckle and lily of the valley, displayed gorgeously in a glittering crystal bottle full of light blue juice.
Your Inner High SchoolerBack-seat make-outs, Friday night football games, meaningful glances by the lockers—there’s something about these playful scents that reminds us of our high school days and provides an instant boost of nostalgia.
TRY:
Victoria’s Secret Bombshell ($52), a fruity floral with notes of purple passion fruit, Shangri-la peony, and vanilla orchid, or
Marc Jacobs Daisy Kiss ($80), with notes including apricot nectar, pink rose, and creamy cedarwood.
Copacabana and CaipirinhasHead to Rio with these flirty, fruity scents, featuring big, bold, mouthwatering notes guaranteed to linger long into the hot night.
TRY:
Escada Fiesta Carioca ($48), a 25th anniversary fragrance featuring notes of South African pretty lady wild cleome, Brazilian maracuja, and European red raspberry, or the insanely sexy
Sol de Janiero Brazilian Crush Body Fragrance Mist ($32), which includes notes of salted caramel and pistachio—it’s vacation in a bottle.
Orange CrushIs there anything more indicative of warm days ahead than a biting, citrusy scent? There are several available this season, all with a nice complexity to balance the citrusy sweetness.
TRY:
Nolita by Bond No 9 ($350), which includes notes of tangerine and amber,
Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent ($91), which features orange blossom in addition to coffee notes, and
